Indy Weekender: Anderson Orchard

Apple picking is one of my family's traditions.  Every year we go to an apple orchard, pick a bunch of apples, and then go home had have one big apple baking fest! Whoo-hoo! haha Anderson's orchard is a famous orchard here in Indy.  Anybody who's been apple picking always recommends Anderson's because of their large orchard with tons of apples, pumpkins, atmosphere, and great things they sell.  We ended up getting the largest bag of apples to pick ourselves, a couple of amazing fall scented candles, an a whole bunch of little pumpkins and gourds to decorate with.  It's a great place to visit to kick off the beginning of fall and a great thing to do this weekend: pick apples, drink some hot cider by the fire, and bake a ton of apples!  See the end of this post for more information about Anderson Orchard.

Fall Color Trend: Orange Inspiration & Pumpkin

Orange is such a fun, bright, and warm color.  This season it was all over the runways, magazines, celebrities, and Fall lookbooks.  To add a little warmth to your life, I've posted a couple of outfits below to give you some inspiration on how to wear this color...and eat it (because it reminds me of pumpkin pie! haha).  I've also posted a picture of pumpkin bread pudding with a link to the recipe.  Bon Appetit!

Trend: Brown Plaid

Last Spring I saw Olivia Palermo wearing plaid pants with an orange blazer and yellow shoes.  I liked the outfit so much that I went out hunting for my own pair of plaid pants.  I managed to find a pair at my local vintage shop, and am I ever happy I did.  This look is getting more and more popular & is sure to be an up coming trend.  The best part about these pants is that they fit perfectly  into your fall wardrobe.  It can be mixed with pumpkin orange, regal purples, mustard yellows, dark blues, browns and olive greens and it will look amazing.  See below for some inspiration:

Shredded Buffalo Chicken Burger Recipe

Here's a recipe I thought up on my own.  It's great for tailgating, dinner, and parties. Unfortunately, we ate them so fast we didn't get a picture of how the burger looks when it's all put together, but you get the idea...

Shredded Buffalo Chicken Burgers

Ingredients:
2 Boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 cup Frank's Buffalo Sauce
Ranch Dressing to taste
1Tbsp Ketchup
4 Burger buns
Crumbled Blue Cheese (optional)
Celery on the side (optional)

Left: Boil chicken in water until thoroughly cooked.  Right: Shred chicken with forks until completely shredded.
Directions:
  1. In a large pot, heat water on high until boiling.  Once boiling, place chicken breasts into water and let boil until thoroughly cooked (20-30min).
  2. Remove thoroughly cooked chicken from water (with a fork or bacon tongs) and place on a plate or cutting board to shred with forks (see picture).
  3. After both breasts have been shredded, put into another pot and pour in Frank's buffalo sauce, 1 tablespoon ketchup, and ranch dressing to taste.  Mix together and heat buffalo-chicken mixture until desired warmth.
  4. Then scoop buffalo chicken out and place on burger buns (like pulled pork) & serve with crumbled blue cheese or ranch dressing on top with a side of celery...amazing!
Makes about 4 burgers.

Fun Outfits On TV: Pan Am

It all started on a recent flight to the Dominican Republic.  The flight attendants were rolling their carts down the aisle offering drinks.  When they got to me, I unlocked my trey from the seat back in front of me and it flew down quickly so that the attendant could put my drink down on it in time.  And, there it was, miles off the ground and right above my lap--an advertisement with the most perfect flight attendants I have ever seen.  Pan-Am, Sunday night at 10pm (eastern time), on ABC.  It was the best advertising I have ever seen!  Last night was the season premier.  I loved how they travel all over the world, meet new people, do fun things, they're smart (because they needed to be at least bi-lingual) and look cute while doing it.  There's even a bit of James Bond/CIA/FBI/MI-6 thrown in.  Oh yes, I am definitely hooked!

Even the extras in the background have great outfits on!
The Girls: The Parisian, The American Beauty, The Detective, and The Sassy/Fashionable one.
They travel all over the world & stay in great hotels with great interior design.
This is a preview of next week: great vacation places & cute swim suits.

Did you watch this show this weekend?

Indy Weekender: Bourbon Street Distillery

Hey, guys!   If you're looking for a fun place to go this weekend you should check out the Bourbon Street Distillery on 361 Indiana Avenue in downtown Indianapolis.  It's right near the Canal and IUPUI university, so there's a ton of night life which makes it a great place to people watch--especially from their second floor balcony.  Just bring a sweater because I heard this weekend is going to be a bit chilly.  From the locals, I heard their specialties are the pork chop, the brisket, and the pulled pork.  Unfortunately, when I went there I didn't try these, so if you go and order it, let me know what you think, ok?  Have a wonderful weekend!

I've been looking through the Fall magazines and I just cannot get over how beautiful some of these looks are.  They all have a burst of color that makes these looks seem fresh and new.  I can't wait to try them.  Which one do you like best?

My Green Monster Shake Recipe

As you know, I am always trying to find new ways to get my veggies into my day.  My latest craze has been trying to make a vegetable smoothie.  Unfortunately, most of the veggie smoothies I made were nasty, that is, until I stumbled upon Angela Liddon's blog "The Green Monster," which is all about vegetable smoothies (you might also know her from her other blog, Oh She Glows, healthy vegan recipe blog).  Angela claims that since she started drinking veggie smoothies that she has felt an increase in energy, a decreased craving for sweets, clearer skin, and that her hair and nails have started growing like weeds!  So, thanks to her, I decided to take another stab at it and now it is amazing; I could drink it all day! The key ingredient is to add a vanilla soy based drink to it.  Below are basics.   Feel free to swap the fruit for whatever is in your refrigerator....and you can thank me later. ;-D

My Veggie Smoothie Recipe

Basic Ingredients:
- 1 cup vanilla soy milk (or vanilla almond milk or vanilla soy power with 1 cup water..or however you make your soy powder drink)
- 2 cups tightly packed spinach or kale
- 1 orange or 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 or 3 ice cubes

Plus (feel free to swap these or not include them...this is where you can get creative):
- 1 banana
- 1 cup grapes

(You can also add a couple carrots here too if you like or celery)

Instructions:
- Throw it all into the blender (usually starting with fluids, the spinach, the fruit; the heaviness on top helps it blend easier) & blend until smooth and liquid-like.  And, Whalah! A delicious Veggie Smoothie!
- Cover and store any left overs in the refrigerator.  Drink within the next day or two.

Laid Back Cool

Yesterday my boyfriend and his aunt and uncle came over to see us.  We went out to a BBQ restaurant which meant that I needed to look nice but also have a casual and laid back look to fit both occasions.  So I opted for a dressy white blouse and jeans--classic casual but yet so easy to dress up.  For this look I tied together a couple of trends: the half-tucked blouse, flare jeans/70's, and red lips.  The best part is that the purse brings the whole look together.  Oh, and the red lips felt super sexy! You should definitely try it.
