As you know, I am always trying to find new ways to get my veggies into my day. My latest craze has been trying to make a vegetable smoothie. Unfortunately, most of the veggie smoothies I made were nasty, that is, until I stumbled upon Angela Liddon's blog "
The Green Monster," which is all about vegetable smoothies (you might also know her from her other blog,
Oh She Glows, healthy vegan recipe blog). Angela claims that since she started drinking veggie smoothies that she has felt an increase in energy, a decreased craving for sweets, clearer skin, and that her hair and nails have started growing like weeds! So, thanks to her, I decided to take another stab at it and now it is amazing; I could drink it all day! The key ingredient is to add a vanilla soy based drink to it. Below are basics. Feel free to swap the fruit for whatever is in your refrigerator....and you can thank me later. ;-D
My Veggie Smoothie Recipe
Basic Ingredients:
- 1 cup vanilla soy milk (or vanilla almond milk or vanilla soy power with 1 cup water..or however you make your soy powder drink)
- 2 cups tightly packed spinach or kale
- 1 orange or 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 or 3 ice cubes
Plus (feel free to swap these or not include them...this is where you can get creative):
- 1 banana
- 1 cup grapes
(You can also add a couple carrots here too if you like or celery)
Instructions:
- Throw it all into the blender (usually starting with fluids, the spinach, the fruit; the heaviness on top helps it blend easier) & blend until smooth and liquid-like. And, Whalah! A delicious Veggie Smoothie!
- Cover and store any left overs in the refrigerator. Drink within the next day or two.

Are you sure it's yummy?
I dunno...
Use mango, strawberries, almond nut, walnut, kale, banana, spinach, broccoli, and water or switch to milk or soy milk. I use milk and also add at the end a little honey. U can ad flax seed as well. I try to get all my green and nuts in one serving.
I have been on raw diet for a month. I tried to omit milk from my diet as well but it has not work yet. It feels good, skin feels better. I have done it on and off over few years now but I want to stick to it this time.
Hey, AnnArborBabe! Ya, I know it sounds weird but it actually is very good. I swear the soy milk is the secret ingredient.
But the recipe above sounds awesome, too! I bet the mango in it is amazing! That's what I love about it, it's so versitile. :D
I'm glad to know that at other people have felt the great effects from it.
Thanks so much everyone for your comments! Luv it!!!!
It looks kind-of funny, but I'm totally going to try it!
How do you think plain milk would taste instead of soy milk?
Hey, Heather! I think you could use regular milk, it just might not taste quite as good. But in the second post from the top, Ananamous gives a great recipe where I bet regular milk would taste good because the mango would make the shake amazing just by itself.
Let me know how it goes and if you tweak it at all to accommodate the regular milk, ok?
